WELCOME TO SECOND SEMESTER

The Academy was organized in 1987 to provide families with a quality educational program. When parents train their children at home with the American Academy, they can have the advantages of a credible elementary and secondary school program.

The American Academy is a full service Private Christian School for Home Schooling. With the help of professional Christian educators, the American Academy can provide your family with advantages to enhance the learning program of your children.

The Academy gives proper academic recognition through the graduation diploma programs of kindergarten, eighth grade, and high school.

Each family who desires a quality educational program for their children and is willing to follow the prescribed requirements is welcome to be a part of the families which make up the American Academy.

The educational program of the Academy helps the parent educate their child as an individual. The parent is trained as a home educational supervisor to direct the child in their educational process. The parent does not “teach” the child the academic subjects, but “supervises” the child’s progress through the daily assignments of the self-instructional curriculum.

Basic components of home schooling with the American Academy provide:

Enrollment in a home school academy, A safe positive learning area,

Making the right decision

Education is the Acquiring of…Knowledge and a Philosophy for life.

Many times a young person completes 12 years of school and graduates not knowing how to live.

The whole purpose of education is to train a child to know how to live. With the proper training, curriculum and tools for educating children, who better can prepare a child for life ……
…than you the parent.

We have chosen the finest educational package to aid you in preparing your children for life during their school years.

Training is “Teaching with Practice”

The staff of the American Academy is here to aid and serve you as you prepare your children for life. It is not enough to just teach concepts and information if the student does not practice what he learns. Doctors and Soldiers are taught and go through the practice of what they have learned before they are graduated. The most important responsibility in raising children is the practice of education “teaching with practice”. A person’s behavior and actions are based on what that person believes. A person’s value base is determined by how that person is trained.

Academy Update… 30th Year of Service

It is exciting to see the continued growth in home schooling. Through these years, the Academy has served many families. The Academy presently serves families with an enrollment throughout the United States and some foreign countries. We are truly appreciative for the opportunities that you have given us as we serve your family. The American Academy has truly become one of the finest names in home schooling.

Truth in Education Goals

American Academy Educational Program is totally individualized. Each subject consists of (12) twelve Paces, or parts, of which are worked as separate units. Students should complete 12 Paces in each subject in one year.

Each student is diagnosed and prescribed curriculum at the student’s level of achievement in each subject. A child may be working at a different level of curriculum in each subject according to his needs and abilities in his or her chronological grade lev-el.

Many times children in conventional school programs are passed from grade to grade with no check on mastery of the subject. This leaves the student with LEARNING GAPS which will eventually lead to frustration and possible withdrawal from the learning process.

On the other hand, because a teacher has taught to the center of the class abilities, the advanced student is held back to a lock step mode which also leads to frustration and withdrawal from learning. If the child does continue with this method of schooling, the learning process is short circuited and instead of mastering the material in a grade, the child is only exposed to teaching with little or no learning. Thus the promotion of a child in this situation is based on curriculum exposure instead of curriculum mastery.

It should be noted that the best learner of the class in a conventional system is the TEACHER as she prepares and presents the lessons. Thus, it is true that the best learner in the self-paced individualized curriculum is the STUDENT as the student masters the curriculum from Pace to Pace. In this approach to education, the student has truly mastered the grades achieved while being in a curriculum level which is appropriate to his learning ability. This mastery of educational skills thus proves to give stronger learner outcomes for the child’s future.

School Evaluation

There are basically five categories for which to look when evaluating the quality of a school. The American Academy has set these qualities as the Academy hallmark in maintaining educational quality for your home school program.

  1. Professional Appearance and Quality.
  2. A Professional Staff.
  3. An Excellent Educational Program.
  4. Positive Student Educational Outcomes.
  5. The Emphasis of Biblical Values.

This test applies not only to the School site but also to the home where the child is edu-cated with the home school program.

How Important Is Your Child’s Education

When Parents and Educators are asked , “Why do you educate your children?”,
You will receive answers among which are:

  • to get a good education, so they can have a good life,
  • to get a good job,
  • because it is required by law, and other answers.

These are all good reasons, but it is not the whole reason.

The sole purpose of education is to train our children to think for themselves, to make decisions from values which are based on respect for the authority of God, love for their fellow man, and to build a respectful, productive and successful life.

Parents who home school their children can hold to an education offering the following essentials:

  • Each person has a purpose in life as they were created by God.
  • Each person will be successful by having respectful attitudes.
  • Character is based on absolute values of right and wrong.
  • Mastering education skills produces confidence and enthusiasm, fostering success in life.
  • Social skills of proper appearance, manners and speech are essential for a successful life.
  • Parents have control over the influences and curriculum whereby the child learns.
  • Parents can build proper attitudes toward their faith in God and respect for their Country.

These important aspects of a child’s education are seldom addressed by parents at home and seldom if at all by schooling attempts outside of the home. What if a child is “educated” by most school standards receiving a diploma and then fails to have the most basic of knowledge and understanding in these seven areas.

The most important responsibility in raising children is the practice of education. A person’s behavior and actions are based on what that person believes. A person’s value base is determined by how that person is educated.

Mastery education which trains a child with a mastery of the concepts of academic knowledge, financial knowledge, physical (health) knowledge, proper relationships and spiritual knowledge, makes up a true education. Home Schooling with the proper tools, curriculum, and structure will help the child to acquire these values for life.

The American Academy Staff thank you for allowing us to be a part of your home schooling.

Socialization and Home Schooling

SOCIALIZATION AND CHRISTIAN HOMESCHOOLING

A CHALLENGE TO HOMESCHOOLING.

Many times those who are desirous of homeschooling their children have been questioned by those concerned who want to see all children have happy social experiences in their education. They feel a lack of socialization will be a deterrent to a proper education. This represents the importance of Christian Homeschooling Programs.

WHAT IS SOCIALIZATION?

Socialization is many things to many people. In most cases, we think socialization as children being with other children their own age at school so they can learn how to get along with others in society and be able to relate and cope with the “Real World”.

Let’s examine this thought. In order to get along with others in society, we must first respect authority and our fellow man. When we take a child and place him in an environment for socialization with other children who are not taught this respect, peer pressure often brings the child to act and think like others in their group. The more “socialization” they receive in their own age group, the more like the group they will act. The child can develop a group attitude with group values. Carried to the full extent, if the child is in a group with values and attitudes contrary to the values and attitudes you have taught at home, because of peer pressure the child may develop those values and attitudes which will limit the child in life. Christian Homeschooling Programs help.

THE GOAL OF EDUCATION.

What we really desire from education is to train an individual citizen to think for themselves, making decisions from values and attitudes which are based on respect for God, authority, and his fellow man. Our desire is to develop a person who has convictions for life-based on character, right conduct, proper communication in their speech and a person whose appearance is a blessing instead of an obstacle to overcome.

SOCIALIZATION OR SOCIAL SKILLS.

The best setting for education is one teacher to one student. The Bible says we are to train up children in the way they should go, so when they are old, they will not depart from that way. We are to be training children to be adults. We are not to allow children to teach children to be children. The Bible teaches “Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child” and if a child is placed in only one age group and is taught only by their peers, they can bring shame to their parents as they try to find themselves and be unable to cope with the world around them.

SOCIAL SKILLS FOR A PROPER EDUCATION.

The best place for a child to learn respect and qualities listed above is at home with a curriculum that teaches: Purpose in Life, Character, Godly Knowledge and Social Skills which reflect respectful manners and appearance with a good positive attitude. They say “the proof is in the pudding”. Compare the next home schooled child you see with the socialized children of the world around you can see who respects God, authority, and their fellow man and not just those of their own age group. This is where Christian Homeschooling Programs truly shine. Some would ask the homeschooler, “What about Socialization?” but we should ask “What about Education and Social Skills

REMEMBER WHEN ?

  • Remember when we looked forward to going to school?
  • When our teachers had a calling to teach as a mission from God?
  • When moral values taught at school were the same as the values taught at home?
  • When most students believed God created the Heavens and Earth?
  • When we believed that man was created and did not evolve from animals?
  • When we were taught that we had an eternal purpose for living?
  • When we were held to God’s standards for living?
  • When we were taught basic skills of education: Math, English, Science, History, Geography, Government, Citizenship, Reading, and Penmanship.
  • When the social agendas were Christian and supported our country’s values and way of life?
  • When we had to learn the subjects in order to pass? When the book was the standard of instruction instead of the class.
  • When there was a right and wrong at school, when character was a virtue and bullies had no place at school?
  • When the way we dressed was respectful and an example to others instead of an obstacle for authority to overcome?
  • When the Golden Rule and Way to Live was taught from the Bible and the Ten Commandments hung on the school house wall?
  • When we weren’t afraid to go to school without police protection and weren’t searched as we walked through the door?
  • When the morning announcements included a devotion and a prayer and we pledged to the Flag of the United States of America, One Nation, Under God.
  • When our teacher’s loved us and had our best interest at heart?
  • When what was taught at school didn’t conflict with what was taught at home or church?
  • When you started home schooling for these very reasons?

EDUCATION FOR
GOD, FAMILY AND COUNTRY

Which education will you choose for your children ?

christian homeschool programs
M.L. Reynolds, M.Ed

Sometimes it is easy to grow weary in well doing as we educate our children. It isn’t always easy to follow God’s way, however it is always best and most profitable in any part of life. This was true with Abraham and Lot. Abraham trained his family in the ways of God, while Lot chose the ways of man. Lot chose the ease and approval of man where the education separated Lot’s children from God.

Lot’s children received an education that was “APPROVED” unto man but not approved unto God. We will not answer to the Higher Board of Education for our children when we pass from this world, however, when we are presented before the Lord in eternity, we will want to hear for us and our children, “well done thou good and faithful servant”. With this in mind, we need to be consistent in preparing our children not only for this time on earth but also for their time in eternity.

How Important Is Your Child’s Education

When Parents and Educators are asked , Why do you educate your children?”, you will receive answers among which are:

  1. To get a good education, so they can have a good life,
  2. To get a good job,
  3. Because it is required by law, and other answers.

These are all good reasons, but it is not the whole reason. A biblical homeschool curriculum provides the core values necessary to achieve an excellent education.

The sole purpose of education is to train our children to think for themselves, to make decisions from values which are based on respect for the authority of God, love for their fellow man, and to build a respectful, productive and successful life. These are all byproducts of a biblical homeschool curriculum.
